A "template" in Quam Plures is a set of files responsible for handling the structure and style of your web pages. In other words they say what bits go where and how they look. When someone clicks a link the server figures out what info the visitor is asking for, reads these files, pulls information from your database, then makes a page for your visitor's browser.
