The app we started from (commonly called "that other app") tried implementing pingbacks but it never really worked well. We opted to remove it and did, but there is still one or two places where we have pb=1 tacked on a URL. This branch fixes that by removing the final references to pingbacks.
UPDATE: branch merged into core on 2011-01-09. Good Show!
