We came up with the idea of letting an installation owner click a box to not display linkback credits, which is actually a page of credits for all contributors. Core, plugins, and the template. Then someone pointed out how that might not be cool due to some template designers say you gotta have a linkback. I'm not sure about enforceability of a conditional added onto a license (depending on the license), but we came up with a neat idea: the installation owner has to get his/her fingers dirty with a file editor if they want to turn off displaying the credits page.

UPDATE: branch merged into core on 2010-12-30. Yay!
